Answer: NO. In Ezekiel 18 we read: “Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die” (v. 4, ESV)
In Ezekiel 18:20 it is repeated, "The soul that sins, it shall die." God alone has immortality and is offering immortality to us through the light of the Gospel. It is a gift that can be received, lost or taken away.
Think about this: if souls can die, then how can they be immortal? The mistake behind this reasoning is the same mistake that the Greek philosophers made, and leads to the terrible misconception that the Lord is some kind of sadist who will burn souls forever and ever in fiery hellish torment.
No, the Bible repeatedly confirms that souls can die and cease to exist. In Matthew 10, Jesus even said that souls can be killed: “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell” (v. 28, ESV).
God loves us, and wants to give us immortality—eternal life. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Notice that “everlasting life” is for believers, not for unbelievers. The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), not eternal life burning in Hell. We can choose to earn the wages of sin, or we can believe in our Savior and act on that belief. Which will you choose?
